RBG Hawaii Day of Action 2020

Sub Dog Designs is a local small business run by Hawai‘i woman lawyer and mompreneur Adrienne Iwamoto Suarez. The company creates eye-catching graphic designs and dye-sublimates them onto non-medical grade face masks.

Sub Dog Designs was born in the midst of the pandemic and focused on face masks as the COVID-19 numbers began soaring on O‘ahu over the summer. Suarez gifted her initial face masks to friends and family, often creating custom designs for them.

Among the very first was a mask celebrating Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG), which featured a stylized version of the Justice surrounded by a burst of golden light, with the word “Unstoppable” across the front. The image was created to celebrate RBG’s legendary resilience and work ethic, as she completed the 2020 court term in and out of the hospital.

The RBG masks were an immediate favorite among Suarez’s women lawyer friends, making their way to Kaimukī, Makiki, Makawao, ‘Aiea, Mililani, and ‘Āina Haina, and later to other professional women as far away as Alaska, Arizona, New York, and Washington D.C. Upon RBG’s passing in the fall, Suarez designed a few more RBG masks each night as a way to work through the tremendous loss and to honor the Justice’s legacy. The RBG collection can be found on Suarez’s website, www.subdogdesigns.com, along with other design collections celebrating women’s strength and connection.
